Hornady’s V-MAX is the perfect bullet for situations where there are varmints – but you wouldn’t like for there to be varmints. The same terminal performance that suits it so well for erasing pest creatures is also what makes the V-MAX a bullet we would count on for self defense!

The V-MAX is created in such a way that makes it self-destruct immediately following impact. The bullet’s polymer tip sits on the rim of its jacket. The tip’s long base reaches deep down into a precision-formed cavity within the V-MAX’s swaged lead core – stopping just short of touching at the bottom. When impact pushes the V-MAX’s tip inward, it generates extreme energy until it connects and – BAZOOM! Total eruption of the core and its jacket alike!

The streamlined V-MAX carries a high ballistic coefficient. This round’s 55 grain bullet has a sharp, centered meplat, aerodynamic profile, concentric copper alloy jacket, and base that is shielded against heat that could deform it. You’ll notice the V-MAX’s flat trajectory as well as the staggering energy with which it explodes into bits vary far downrange.

This cartridge is loaded by Red Mountain Arsenal of Roswell, New Mexico. The veteran-owned manufacturer serves several government clients in addition to American hunters and target shooters. They exclusively load brass cases with non-corrosive primers and clean burning propellant.
