Steel shot is environmentally-friendly. But what about all those hulls and wads you have to leave behind whenever you go hunting for upland game? Well, thanks to BioAmmo of Spain, you can now adventure through your favorite pristine hunting grounds without creating litter.

This 12 Gauge shell’s hull and wad are both completely compostable. They are made out of BioAmmo’s patented vegetable biopolymer – primarily corn starch – so algae, fungi and other microorganisms will eat them up until there’s nothing left. Decomposition may take as long as two years on the soil surface, so you should still gather your hulls to take home to your own compost heap.

The biopolymer components also degrade in water, and even BioAmmo’s boxes themselves are fully degradable. The pheasants will thank you for not polluting their habitat (before you shoot them).

BioAmmo loads premium non-biodegradable components, too. This shell’s #5 steel shot exhibits the roundness it needs to pattern in a tight circle at several dozen yards. Its wad opens up for fast separation from the shot column shortly after emergence from the barrel. The Spanish manufacturer’s non-corrosive primers and clean-burning propellant charges deliver consistent accuracy and recoil.

BioAmmo shotshells can be stored in normal conditions for at least five years.
